Revolusion History and Abiy Ahmed
After recent George Floy’s murders at the hands of white police officers, we have witnessed both in America and across the world the tumbling down of monuments. Monuments that glorify the past injustice. So far, we have learned that history teaches us these kinds of monuments stand as a profound obstacle between meaningful reconciliation society may strive for. For African American, the past represents deep pain and great violence that their ancestors went through from slavery. Similarly, the past Ethiopia’s History with bloodshed and marginalization of Ethiopian’s majority ethnic in particular for the Oromos and so many other ethnic groups. All history is instructive and worthy of study, but not all history is worthy of honor. In fact, we must never forget, hide nor stop learning from the ugliness of our history, but we must also be careful that the ugly injustice is not exhibited in places of honor.
